Treef was founded in 1980 by Maria Grazia Caselli and Paolo Giachetti. Previously, Maria Grazia worked as a seamstress, and Paolo was a salesman in the tire industry.
The founding of the company was both the culmination of a dream and the beginning of a highly experimental project. Maria Grazia and Paolo dreamed of starting their own business in a field yet to be explored: the transformation of foam rubber.
They invested their savings in a small plant in Calenzano, just outside Florence, Italy, and began working to create foam shapes, especially for upholsterers who made sofas and armchairs.
The work was quite difficult and new: they learned almost everything by themselves thanks to their enthusiasm, creativity, and determination.
Floor to floor, they created a solid and thriving business, with a significant number of loyal customers. In 2004, after a lifetime of work, they retired and left the company to their two children, Francesco and Enrica.
The Giachetti brothers now work together with Lorenzo, son of Enrica, and Mariella, a talented woman in charge of everything that concerns needlecraft.
At Treef, while everyone does a bit of everything, Enrica is mostly in charge of the administration, while Francesco is the innovations manager, always looking for new and interesting solutions.
In 2015 the Giachetti brothers decide to start a new adventure. In fact, during that year, the Consorzio Tappezzieri Fiorentini (Florentine Upholsterers Consortium) is expected to go out of business. This is an important establishment, born in 1969 with the aim to gather in a group project the "family" of the upholterers artisans' shops, a traditionalist and diversified family.
In that moment the Treef's owners start to build a new project, aimed to prevent the complete end of a decennial tradition and to create a reference point for many upholsterers and experts of this sector.
Within a few months everything is settled: Treef acquires the stock and the production that was previously fulfilled by the Consorzio. So, the firm increases the staff, as well, taking advantage of two new collaborators: Stefano, already employed at the Consorzio for many years as stock manager, extremely competent, and Antonella, very expert about accounting and administrative matters.
After more than thirty years, Treef still has many of its original customers. Over the years, Treef has welcomed other upholsterers, as well as many interior decorators and architects who often turn to Treef to set up houses, public spaces, boats, gardens, and pools for prestigious and international projects.
